Sonic Bloom 2019 Artist Highlight: Opiuo

Sonic Bloom is less than a month away until the Thursday kick off to the Unified field from June 18th – 21st. With incredible line-ups each year, there is no shortage of talent, bringing in Gramatik, Opiuo, Ayla Nero, Vibesquad, Yheti, and so many others it is difficult to give them all a mention! It also holds more than just music! Sonic Bloom is heavily active in the permaculture movement, they help lay the seeds of tomorrow by offering ‘The Sonic Bloom Academy,’ which has 3 classes for Bloomers to attend before the festival. more info can be found here.

An artist that we are looking very forward to is the brilliant & unique artist; Opiuo. He is a worldwide phenomenon being a ‘kiwi’, yet calling Australia home, but thankfully for us, he frequently blesses us with epic performances in Colorado! His funky bass music will take you for a special journey with entrancing beats inspired by his travels; from zippery bass, brass jazz, to deep dirty drops backed with insane percussion, Opiuo has quite a vast range of music that he plays through. He tends to play with an electronic drum pad, Roland SPD-SX and a keyboard, Akai MPK225, that combined with his DJing and eccentric energy it makes for a performance like no other! For years he played out his magnificent sets as a solo act on stage, but a couple of years ago he took it to the next level adding in a live band. Since then, it’s just been a phenomenon of dazzling music. Even though its a classic his album, Meraki won him the Electronic Album of The Year at the 2014 NZ Music Awards, and not to mention his Omniversal album in 2016 had gotten the Finalist Electronic Album of The Year NZ Music Award. Recently he had played with the Syzygy Orchestra at Red Rocks, which gave us a new spin on the classic sounding Opiuo. He has been all over the world doing his performances but he loves coming back to the Rocky Mountain Region and playing in Colorado and thankfully it will be a much-anticipated return performance of his at Sonic Bloom! He has played at the Unified Field in 2016 with the live band and we have been itching to show him our ‘Sneakers’ since then! (Opiuo is no stranger to Sonic Bloom though, he has played 2013 and 2014 in addition to the live band year in ’16!) We eagerly await to see what he will bring to bloom this year!
