Lettuce + The Floozies Rage Rocks Review

On June 8th, 2018, fans of Lettuce, The Floozies, The Funk Hunters, and Jaw Gems went on a pilgrimage to Red Rocks Amphitheater for Rage Rocks 2018! Car Taxi Apps were getting calls and people began partying with their friends. Flights were arriving and it was afternoon when Lettuce arrived at Red Rocks and began to load in for one of the best nights at Red Rocks in 2018. Parking lots began to fill up as anticipation for the event started to overflow with fans all over the country as they started to fill the seats to the historic and most legendary, Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO! The stage was set and the vibe was incredible. There were already lots of people in the crowd and many of them were wearing Lettuce or The Floozies shirts, hats, and more. The other half was wearing some funky jackets from the 80s and colorful hats that had disco written all over them. The funk was alive and well at Red Rocks on a beautiful Friday night and it was just getting underway. Jaw Gems opened the day and followed them came The Funk Hunters who threw down a high energy DJ set with a range of different styles like hip-hop, glitch, and funk that got the crowd moving and to their feet. Cheers of “aha!” and “Woohoo!” were heard from all over. Red Rocks Amphitheater was really coming alive as the setting of the sun approached and the start to the Floozies set began! Now, just to backtrack a little, Lettuce and The Floozies had played the inaugural Fool’s Paradise in St. Augustine, FL where our photographer, Nick Bogannam shot a couple years ago. The show was ultra successful and a ton of fun for everyone since the bands like to get out and play games like putt-putt or volleyball on the beach with their fans during the day. Fast forward to today, Lettuce and The Floozies headlined Red Rocks together and we couldn’t think of a better combination here at The Chronic Electronic!  The Floozies threw down one big super funk set with tons of heaters, lasers, hip abductions and more! The Floozies brought in a horn section that was top notch and they were all having so much fun on stage. You could see the joy in their smiles and in the way they had commanded the stage. The crowd was roaring as each song began and everyone was really off their seat and jumping around with no time to sit still. It came time for Lettuce to come on and the Rocks was already off the chain. This was one of the rowdiest shows that I’ve been to this year. Lettuce stepped out onto the stage and the crowd erupted in cheer. We were about to get funkified and knew all about what was coming! Lettuce was hitting us hard with its big horn section and would drop into funky and very dubby Lettuce grooves that I have come to love from the band. Adam Deitch, leading the band by example with nasty grooves and phat funk-a-delic bass lines by Erick “Jesus” Coomes. We want to also give a shoutout to Blake Addington, lighting designer for Lettuce, who blew us away with a great light show to go with the bands stellar performance. His incorporation of greens, purples, and blues along with bright white light and epic lighting effects to go with his color palette made for a very memorable night.
