Bassrush Massive Review: BEYOND EPIC

Bassrush recently brought a night full of heavy bass which threw the f*#k down for it being their first time in Arizona on 5/6/17 at the Rawhide Event Center! Bassrush Massive was a collaboration between two events, being Bassrush, which is a production company coming from the ever so revered and impressive Insomniac Events, and Arizona local production company called Relentless Beats. With this collaboration of two heavy weight production crews and the several BASSTASTIC artists; Adventure Club • Flux Pavilion • NGHTMRE • ANDY C • Herobust • SAY MY NAME • Phiso and Oolacile… Bassrush Massive was BEYOND EPIC!

When I found out about this show back in
February, with the artists that got booked and the reputation of both the production companies, I HAD to make this trip from Colorado Springs, to my birth city Phoenix. Not to mention, Andy C, is one of the first electronic acts that I saw live and instantly captivated me. On top of that he was booked to perform in-between heavy hitting artists, Herobust and NGHTMRE! No way I could miss that! The show was on Saturday and leaving at 9:00pm Friday night, along with finals waiting on Tuesday for my best friend, driver, and assistant, Kevin, we had to decide how to do it and if driving for half of the weekend was worth it. Well… Living by my motto, “Risk it for the biscuit,” we made the drive with enough time to nap before the chaos took over the Rawhide Event Center. In this case, the biscuit was going to be a night full of dank and heavy bass music and what a hell of a night it turned out to be.

Getting there during Phiso, the party inside of the massive barn had already taken off into a whirlwind of grimy bass music and flawless transitions! Phiso is heavy dubstep and is widely known by his neck breaking song, ‘Jotaro’, Phiso had not disappointed as he warmed the crowd up with a wide variety of classic and new dubstep tracks. After that dub filled set, the following producer/DJ was the only artist on the lineup that I had not much knowledge about, Say My Name. Going in not knowing or expecting anything in particular I was completely awestruck. Banging trap music that was carefully catered to the crowd alongside classic and new age hard style, Say My Name took me by surprise and was an amazing set to get the blood pumping! (View a video of Say My Name below and watch the crowd get hyped!)

After being completely impressed by Say My Name, Herobust had taken the stage and in no time, brought insane bass that gave me no time to recuperate from the prior artists! Herobust, coming from Atlanta, has mastered his unique-sound by being a devastatingly gnarly blend of trap music and grime heavy bass music. You can check out his banging songs; Dirty Work, Skurt Reynolds, and Vertebreaker. Herobust had his fans and everyone else attending the show instantly become #BUSTED! Even with how much energy was in the crowd and with how filthy his set was, nothing could have prepared me for the next artist that slayed the room with some of the most original music in our dance scene; Drum and Bass, spun out by world renowned Andy C! Alongside, his trusted and extremely talented MC, Armanni Reign. They most definitely brought the faster beats to the Rawhide center. Bassrush has always prided themselves on drum and bass, as it is considered the big brother to dubstep, and with Andy C and Armanni Reign, you get the most quality drum and bass in the world. Andy C slayed the decks with incredible and mind-blowing transitions / mixing of classic and new / unreleased songs with the occasional rap / hype from Armanni Reign. This set absolutely turned the venue into one crazy party! (Check out the video below to see Bassrush Massive go off to his renowned song, ‘Heart Beat Loud’, and see what he does best as he mixes it with several other songs!)

Following the energetic set of Drum and Bass, NGHTMRE took the stage, and as it was my first time seeing him – I absolutely lost it! A set full of unique samples that match up perfectly with heavy bass beats, playing a wide range of trap and other bass music, NGHTMRE surely gave me and everyone in the room goosebumps with his gnarly performance. (Watch a Clip of NGHTMRE below.) After that floor shaking set, British dubstep legend and OG producer, Flux Pavilion destroyed the crowd with the massive variety in his selection of tracks. Ranging from dubstep, to future, trap, drum and bass, and more, Flux Pavilion had all genres of bass heavy music covered. Another glorious set by the infamous, Flux Pavilion. Ending the night with the duo from Canada, Adventure Club, they were the “cherry on top of the cake.” At this point I had already been totally impressed with all of the the performances though-out the night, but with the interesting yet vibe-perfect track selection and diversity that Adventure Club had presented at Bassrush Massive. I was in complete awe! Mixing in popular songs then changing up the drops throughout their set, even on their popular releases, they had kept me on edge interested to see what transition they were going to come up with next! An absolute stunning performance and the perfect way to end the extremely bass filled night! Given the circumstances of my tight time schedule, If shown the same opportunity with the same schedule, I would do it again in a heart beat. 10/10 on production, music variation and talent, and overall some of the best vibes that I have ever been apart of at a concert! Headbangers united under one roof and it was absolutely spectacular!
